Our green has a good reputation as a fine playing surface and has been used for the
opening rounds of the Southampton Open Tournament. There are normally six rinks
(each rink supports one game of up to eight players - four a side) but can be
extended to seven rinks if required for special occasions.
There is car parking on Northlands Road, some restricted to four hours which is long
enough for a game of bowls but which keeps the "all-day parkers" away. In addition
the Club has off street parking which, by using every inch of space, usually means
everyone can leave their car on, or adjacent to, the ground. |
The south facing pavilion dates from the Club's founding and retains most of the original features and a recent extension,
funded by a lottery grant, blends in seamlessly. A veranda provides covered seating for spectators from inclement weather or,
we hope, the sun. |
Separate changing rooms and toilet facilities are provided for ladies and gentlemen
with lockers to store equipment and clothing. Notice boards in these areas often
advertise surplus clothing and equipment for sale which can reduce the cost of
getting started for new players. The club also has a limited selection of bowls, which newcomers are
welcome to borrow, while they discover which of the various styles, weights and
sizes are best for them.
There is a lounge area where the history of the club can be followed from the
Honours Boards, photographs and trophies which adorn the walls. Here,
throughout the playing season, tea and coffee can be prepared and biscuits are
available. The well stocked bar, playing season only, is also situated in the lounge
and if your tipple is not stocked a word with our Bar Committee Chairman will
satisfy your thirst if the product is viable. It is in this lounge, and on the veranda,
that many new friendships have been cemented. |
